Current Club: Fernando Hierro started as a defender with Real Valladolid before transferring to Real Madrid two years later. Seen as one of the top defenders of his generation, Hierro has won, both records and honours with Real Madrid and Spain.
He captained both teams at his peak, and won the Liga 5 times. Along with the domestic success, he was instrumental in winning the Champions League 3 times in 1998, 2000, and 2002.
He was capped 89 times for Spain, a record for an outfield defender, representing Spain in the World cup in 1994, 1998, and 2002. He also played in 2 European Championships, 2996 and 2000. He retired from international football in 2002.
In 2003, he was released from Real Madrid and Hierro made his way to Qatar club; Al Rayyan. He returned to Europe in 2004 joining Bolton Wanderers which he helped them qualify for the UEFA Cup, coming in 6th place, right behind Liverpool and Everton.
At the end of the 2004-05 season, Hierro announced his retirement from football.
